Produced for the 2013 Tainan 39hr Short Film Contestival
Running Time: 7min 46sec
Genre: Drama/Psychological Horror
Awards: Best Sound & Best Editing
As foreigners living in a foreign country, aspects of the local culture both fascinate and confuse us. This film explores the conflict that many younger women in modern Taiwanese society face as they try to find their new place between traditional expectations and modern desires.
We felt that shooting the film with combined drama and horror elements worked best to convey the P.O.V. of the central character. The feeling of being trapped becomes a nightmare for her, and so horror worked best to reveal her state of mind and confusion. The line between imagination & reality becomes blurred much more easily when working in a more creative-friendly genre such as fantasy/horror.
Everything about this film, from initial idea to final film, came together rather quickly and smoothly. Everyone on the team worked well together to achieve the director's vision, and this most certainly helped the film with its success.
*NOTE: The title of the film holds the key to it's riddle. All you have to do is think of the different meanings of the verb 'to bear'... ;-)
